Should a young mom stay home or work

Published by taminate at 12:59 pm under Uncategorized Edit This

I cannot decide if it is right for me to go to college for a “high paying career” or to just take some classes on the side and stay home. If I chose to stay home, then I will probably not use my college any time soon- if ever…But my girls are EVERYTHING to me. We are a one income family, and a small income it is, but we are able to pay the bills. I am 20, *almost 21* and I have a 2 year old and a 9 month old. I have been with my hubby for over 6 years, so no judging on that part please. I can see both side of the equation VERY CLEARLY…on one hand I could make LOTS OF MONEY and have a nice house/car/clothes and so on…on the other hand I would miss out on a LOT of PRECIOUS time with my little girls. My mom was in the military, not active, but she was still gone a lot, given she was a single mom too. ALSO, I have done some research, and it seems that working woman may get divorced more than stay at home mom’s. I am not worried about my marriage, we are pretty solid, I just thought I would add that.

I so have some thoughts on this…but my ultimate advice is to do what is best for you and your family. If you love staying at home with them and can afford to do so, then by all means be the stay at home mom. Taking classes on the side can be great for your mood and your mind though–I encourage that. Plus it is always good to have a degree to fall back on should you need to return to work at some point (stuff happens!) I myself have just gone back to work out of necessity and had to leave my boys with my husband–it was hard but I actually feel more satisfied as a person. It is good to get out a talk to adults again. I think everyone should do what is good for themselves and not worry about being judged by others who feel the need to insert their opinions. Good luck to you and may your decision be the right one for you.

I think the best option is probably to stay home with the kiddies like you want while taking online courses or something of the sort, if possible. A lot of community colleges offer correspondence courses or even online courses now of days… I wish it was available like this 7-9 years ago for me. The most you might have to do in some cases is come in for an exam every couple months or so; some programs have it all online. Start out with a class or two and see how much you can handle; go from there. Not that you have to look for a career right away, but it’s good just in case you do need it in the future. Good luck with your beautiful girls. Take care.

Well, I tried the working field, and my hubby stayed home with the girls. I felt like I missed out on everything! I eventually could not take it anymore and had a bit of a break-down. I am now home, attending college online *which I hate*. I started my own business now, so hopefully eventually that will go somewhere.
